The License PlateI thought long and hard about the license plate on the Talon. Since the inception of the car back in 1999, I had purchased the plate LETHAL4 to pay homage to my step brother's LETHAL plate that he had on his 1972 Buick GS Stage 1 (That runs low 11's) - I wanted to get LETHAL after he let it expire, but I wasn't able to - someone else had grabbed the plate, so it was currently registered. With the new version of the Talon rolling out, I wanted to get another plate, and it had to be personalized. Mark and I pondered long and hard on the new plate, and came up with quite a few suggestions; some of them were taken, others were available. In Michigan, the DMV is known as the "Secretary of State" - they have a website where you can check for availability of personalized, or vanity plates, and then you simply go to the SOS and register them. Simple enough. Okay, so what would we come up with? Here's a list of license plates that were available when we started looking. Since thing is obviously a drag-only car, I was pondering the use of 1320, the number of feet in a 1/4 mile. But that just didn't ring quite right. So, I thought it'd be fun to do something like 1MPORT, jusdt to bug people. We came up with a few other variations of things, from RWDRACR, to HOLYCOW - some of them were funnier than others. In the end, I settled on FATTIES, because the tires on the back of the car are just plain enormous for the Talon. So, FATTIES it was Fast forward one year. Registration came up for the Talon again, and I pondered other plate ideas for the Talon. There was only one that popped into my head. It was available, so I got it. TALON. Yeah, it's simple, but I like it :-) Hey, you'd get VETTE for your Corvetter if you could, too ;-) The reality of the car is that it will never see the streets. So, why do I keep it plated? Simple - I like getting new plates ;-) It adds a neat factor to the car. Hopefully I'll be able to hold out to get another plate or two that I like. Then, when I run the car at the track, I'll swap the plate out depending on my mood. I like TALON for now; I think I'll keep that on the car for it's maiden voyage :-)
